As of 2024, the long duration energy storage (LDES) electrochemical technology with the largest round-trip efficiency was lithium-ion batteries, with an estimated efficiency ranging between 85 and 96 percent. Sodium-ion batteries followed, achieving a round-trip efficiency between 60 and 85 percent.
